The Fuel of Hard Work Starts with You

  • Jun 29, 2020

"It's hard to beat a person who never gives up."

Babe Ruth

"Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle."

Abraham Lincoln

"Perseverance is the hard work you do after you get tired of doing the hard work you already did."

Newt Gingrich.

What do these three quotes have in common?  For starters, a commitment to hard work.  An appreciation and understanding that hard work is the foundation of a life well-lived.  And a well-run company.  Hard work is one of the key threads that knitted our nation and it is the glue that will keep us together.

To say 2020 has been a challenge is an understatement. There are no words to express the deep impact American businesses, both owners and employees, have endured so far and what we must be willing to accomplish to thrive again.

In preparation for writing to you today, I came across Why It Is Important To Work Hard by Joshua Becker.  I thought it was a good read.  Whether the work is paid or unpaid, there are many reasons to commit to the discipline of hard work.  This article highlights seven:

  • Work forces personal development.
  • Our work brings benefits to society.
  • Hard work is an example for our kids.
  • Work hard at work to work hard at life.
  • Work hard to make the most of your hours.  The hours will pass away.
  • Work is fulfilling, in and of itself.
  • Working keeps our lives occupied with important matters.

Equally important to the commitment to hard work is the fuel of self-care and the celebration of accomplishment.  From my vantage point, it is time to focus on the joy of work.  We can create a culture of joy as leaders by being the difference we want to see.  Focusing on what we do have and what is possible.  Executing on the 4 Gs of marketing (written about last week.)  Saying thank you to the clients and employees who have propelled us to today.
